Blue Orange Green Pink Purple

“To my mind, the greatest reward and luxury of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar it is taken for granted.” – Bill Bryson

Many life experiences have led me to this place and time… join me as I spend a summer in a small village in Greece where generations of my family have lived and where I now hope to put down a few roots. Along my journey I will write letters to you to share my experiences and hopefully inspire you to create your own wherever you live or travel…
Dear Friend,

Should we sit down for a Greek coffee at the Cafe yet or keep walking?

The bus stop! I don't know how I didn't figure this one out on my own... This also appears to be where you pay your water bill. This bill isn't sent to your house, but rather you go every couple six months to check your estimate and pay the fee.

The Village Butcher... if you are the non-queasy adventurous type, take a look into the butcher's window. He has two big copping blocks and a huge storage locker. On my first look in, I was surprised by a huge pig hanging from the ceiling. I'm not quite cut out for this place, but the butcher is a sweet little old man that greets me with excitement when I walk by. My Aunt Voula was one of his loyal customers...

The school supply shop is another favorite stop on our walk. The owner patiently allows Kolya to browse almost daily her supply of small toys and art supplies...

Our favorite grocery market is next... father and son own this store and they are both cheerful, friendly and patient with us. They have a little deli case too where we order sliced Edam cheese and blocks of feta. The selection of fresh fruits and vegetables changes daily and on hot days we pick up an ice cream treat for our walk home.

Our final stop for now is the Pharmacy and Dentists Office. Unfortunately, we have visited both. Jason had a bit of a brawl with a beach lounge chair when he was here in June. Thankfully, the dentist was able to fix that problem and for just 20 Euros! The pharmacy has become our supplier for bug bite cream and καραμελες για ποντικια ("sweets" for our mouse).

XOXO,

Karen June
