Blue Orange Green Pink Purple

“To my mind, the greatest reward and luxury of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar it is taken for granted.” – Bill Bryson

Many life experiences have led me to this place and time… join me as I spend a summer in a small village in Greece where generations of my family have lived and where I now hope to put down a few roots. Along my journey I will write letters to you to share my experiences and hopefully inspire you to create your own wherever you live or travel…
Dear Friend,

Let me take you on a walk into town... This is the way we go if we aren't taking a shortcut to the bakery.

The village is a mix of old and new... the ruins of this house with a fireplace still stand next to newly built and freshly painted ones.

We continue around this sharp bend and try to stay close to the walls because cars come quickly around the corner despite the lack of visibility.

Once we pass the turn, we come upon the village Tailor. He works well into the night and men wait in wooden chairs for their pants to be hemmed or other garments to be mended.

Many houses have spiral staircases leading up to their rooftops allowing for stunning views of the village.

This last stretch of road brings us closer into town. At this point, the anticipation of buying souvlaki or ice cream at the cafe is causing us to walk faster.

These "birds" can be seen on many rooftops and are an attractive way to direct the chimney smoke away from the house.

This beautiful entryway always makes me pause for a moment. Just inside the gate is a clay pot fountain. The running water makes their veranda very peaceful.

More soon!

XOXO,

Karen June
