Blue Orange Green Pink Purple

“To my mind, the greatest reward and luxury of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar it is taken for granted.” – Bill Bryson

Many life experiences have led me to this place and time… join me as I spend a summer in a small village in Greece where generations of my family have lived and where I now hope to put down a few roots. Along my journey I will write letters to you to share my experiences and hopefully inspire you to create your own wherever you live or travel…

Mediterranean Sea & Sun

We spent our first full day relaxing and soaking up some Mediterranean sun and swimming in the sea... We went to the Hotel Elite. In Greece you can sit by the sea at most hotels and use their lounges and umbrellas as long as you order beverages or food. My SIL Karin had a Frappe with ice cream, Kolya a Fanta Portokolatha of course (without gas - no bubbles) and we each had toast with cheese or ham and cheese as well as french fries. French fries in Greece are like no other ... Cooked in olive oil and sprinkled with salt, pepper and oregano. Unbelievable ... And a must have at the beach!

The Elite also has a small boardwalk which allows you to walk the length of their ocean front to avoid the HOT sand and rocks and there are even outdoor showers and changing rooms for your use. Most Greeks go to the beach daily to beat the summer heat... So of course we must follow tradition ;)
