Blue Orange Green Pink Purple

“To my mind, the greatest reward and luxury of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar it is taken for granted.” – Bill Bryson

Many life experiences have led me to this place and time… join me as I spend a summer in a small village in Greece where generations of my family have lived and where I now hope to put down a few roots. Along my journey I will write letters to you to share my experiences and hopefully inspire you to create your own wherever you live or travel…

Cultural Horizons

Last week we joined some friends on the village platia (square) to see a play performed by a theatre group from Kalamata ... in Greek of course. I was hoping that the art of acting would somehow transcend language and I would at least absorb the gist of the play. However, other than the most broad theme of two shepherds, a growing flock of birds, that often broke into song, and a lone owl awkwardly swaying in the background I knew no more two hours later than when it began! I did pick up on some globally inappropriate gestures however and was hoping they were reaching over the first two rows of children in the audience. Kolya, not to worry, was in a Fanta and souvlaki induced coma by this point. None the less, I am sure that my cultural horizons were still broadened. :)
