Blue Orange Green Pink Purple

“To my mind, the greatest reward and luxury of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar it is taken for granted.” – Bill Bryson

Many life experiences have led me to this place and time… join me as I spend a summer in a small village in Greece where generations of my family have lived and where I now hope to put down a few roots. Along my journey I will write letters to you to share my experiences and hopefully inspire you to create your own wherever you live or travel…
Dear Friend,

Our neighbors are taking good care of us here in Arfara. There are plenty of grocery stores here, but many of our neighbors are quite self-reliant ... raising roosters, turkeys and lambs for meat, hens for eggs, goats and cows for milk ad cheese. their vegetable gardens are abundant with greens, zucchini, cucumbers and tomatoes. Trees in their gardens provide oranges, figs and olives. Grape vines provide shade on terraces as well as huge clusters of ripe grapes. In our garden, we have two olive trees... one for oil and one for eating, three fig trees, two orange trees and grape vines. We haven't planted any vegetables because of the relative shortness of our stay. However, our neighbors have been more than generous with their abundance. We now have jars of olives stacked in the cupboard and a basket of tomatoes in the windowsill, cucumbers, zucchini and fresh eggs chilling in the refrigerator and a freshly plucked (!!!) chicken waiting to be cooked. I think we just need to make friends with someone who makes cheese and another who bakes their own bread and we'll be set!

XOXO,

Karen June

Wow, You'll have to make something to give in return. I'm sure you will think of something. just think of all the wonderful things you'll make to eat.
